Once you have created your custom data fields, you can now use these to personalise your templates even further!

Email Templates

After creating your custom data fields (See article), you can take advantage of them to enhance the personalisation of your templates.

To incorporate custom fields into an email template, follow these steps within the template editor while in 'Content' mode:

1. Choose the snippet where you want to insert the personalisation.

2. Position the cursor at the desired location within the text editor.

3. Click on the person icon and select the option "+ Insert" to import your custom field.

You can then select either standard fields such as First Name or custom fields in the first drop down box by either scrolling through the list displayed, or typing the name of your field:

Depending on the data type of your custom field, you may need to specify the data format. This is particularly relevant if you have created a numerical field such as Integer or Float. For text fields, specifying the format is not necessary as it doesn't affect the display.

You also have the option to define how to handle a null value. This means deciding what should happen if the field is left blank or doesn't exist for a particular contact.

Ignore:

This will leave a blank space in the template where the field should be if the custom field is blank/non-existent against the contact.

Fail:

This will prevent the email from being sent to the contact if the custom field is blank/non-existent.

Default:

This allows you to specify the exact text that you would like to display in the template in case of the field being blank/non-existent against the contact.

Once the personalisation formatting has been set up, click 'insert' and then make sure you click 'Save Element' on the text editor to pull through onto the template.

The icon is available throughout the platform, allowing you to follow the above steps and set up your personalisation field wherever you encounter the icon.

Examples of where you can use this personalisation field are

  • Subject Lines
  • Pre-Headers
  • Alt Text for Images
  • URL's
