You may be wondering what each of the sections mean when you click on the "Email Templates" section of the platform. Luckily we are here to help !
There are five main headings at the top of the email templates section of the platform: Upload, Templates Library, Draft, Published and Snippets.
We will go through each of these in turn and explain their function.
Upload
This is where you can upload your own HTML email template to use within the platform. We have a great article on this here (link to article).
Templates Library
This is where your master templates will sit. There will be some standard F24 templates in this section which you can use and pop your own content in, or you can upload your own.
These are effectively just the basis on which you build your email template and are designed to be used over and over, meaning if you have a template that you really like or that is proving particularly successful, you can keep using this template and just populate with different content each time.
You can filter your templates library by name or date created with this button just above where the templates sit:
If you hover over a master template and press Use, this will save it into your drafts as an editable template.
Draft
The drafts section is probably where you will spend most of your time. This is where any emails that you are currently working on will be and if you hover over a particular template it will give you the option to either Edit or Send Test:
These are both useful features as obviously Edit allows you to go in and make any changes to your draft template, but Send Test is particularly useful for draft templates as it allows you to see what the email will look like in the inbox. We have an excellent article on test emails here (link to article).
If you click the three dots at the top right of any draft template, you will be given a range of options;
Here, you will be able to publish the template, download a HTML version of the template, or save it to your templates library, to name just a few. Once you have finished with your draft version of the email and are happy with how it looks in a test, the next step is to publish the email.
Published
Once you have published your draft, this is where it will be.
If you hover over an email that is in the Published section, it will give you the option to either send a test or create a campaign from that email:
We have already covered testing, and we also have a great article on creating campaigns here (link to article). Once your email is published, you will be able to use it to send a live campaign to your contacts !
There is also a drop down menu available for published templates if you press the three dots in the top right corner, but this time the options are different and more limited.
Once again, you can download a HTML version of the email and rename it, but more importantly, you can clone it back into your drafts. If you spot an error with a published email, this is an easy way to sort that out and then you can republish !
Snippets
This is where all your snippets will sit. We have a separate article on how to manage your snippets (link to article) which provides more detail on this.
Common features across all sections
- Layout - you are able to change the layout at any time using this button, which allows you to view the templates like this:
Or like this: - Tagging - you can tag across all sections, whether this is templates library, draft, published or snippets. To tag a template, all you need to do is press the tags button at the bottom and it will allow you to create a new tag or select an already existing one. This is a really handy way to organise your email templates.
- Number of templates per page - you can customise this with the below drop down which goes up to 100!
